History of the Lollipop

Image
Ancient Beginnings: Archeologists found that our ancient ancestors perhaps created the earliest version of the lollipop thousands of years ago. In ancient times, people would preserve fruits and nuts with honey and place them on wooden sticks for easy consumption. As time went on honey became less and less available, almost destroying the future of the lollipop.  17th Century: As time progressed, so did hope for the lollipop. Sugar became more abundant and replaced honey in many recipes. London Street vendors used sugar to make soft candies that they placed on sticks. This confection became known as "Lolly Pop" which humorously translates to "Tongue Slap".  20th Century: The lollipop appeared in various forms throughout the 1800's but it wasn't until the early 1900's that the most recognizable version of the lollipop emerged. Plenty of people tried to monetize the lollipop at this time; however, it is believed that the first...

Image
You've probably heard the expression before and whether you've thought about it or not you've probably experienced it too. Im talking about eating with your eyes. Have you ever wondered why we do this? I dug a little deeper and the reason is pretty cool! Sight is one of the first sensory organs we use when deciding what to eat. If a food is perceived to be visually appealing, than we want to eat it. It causing our mouths to water, and the reason why is embedded deep inside our brains. Studies have found that 'eating with your eyes' is not just an expression, but that it also plays an important roll in evolution for all living animals. It teaches animals and humans what they should eat. Its why when a Cheetah sees a Gazelle prancing off in the distance, they know its time to hunt. Their eyes see the pray and their brain tells them to eat it. The response may also detect why human children explore the world with their mouths. It all routes back to evolution as a ...
